How is Cornwall in April?

Many people ask “How is Cornwall in April?” when they’re planning their Spring getaways – we always tell them April is a wonderful time to holiday in Cornwall. There are warmer temperatures, lighter evenings, quiet beaches and stunning seasonal gardens.

Here are just some of the other reasons to visit Cornwall this Spring.

The countryside and gardens:

Cornwall’s gardens come alive in April with a spectrum of colours including dancing tulips, carpets of bluebells in the woodlands and splashes of colourful Cornus trees, commonly known as “dogwood”.

They cover the countryside throughout Cornwall, but there are also some stunning gardens where rhododendrons are the stars of the show.

One place that’s worth a visit is Tregothnan, where the historic house and garden opens its doors just once a year for a very special charity event. One of the highlights is the tunnel of rhododendrons – read more about Tregothnan’s charity open day here.

Although not tropical, this is often warmer than the rest of the country at this time of year so is a great place to escape the chill.

Given the variable weather, it’s a good idea to pack layers, so you’re prepared for cool shady walks and the warmth of the Spring sunshine in the open air. Light waterproofs are also a good idea in case of April showers.
